The REACH Project, Inc (REACH Medical) Announces Funding from The Park Foundation to Expand Medical Outreach to Individuals Experiencing Homelessness or Housing Instability

(Ithaca, NY, November 2020) The REACH Project, Inc. has received a $70,000 grant from the Park Foundation to fund expanded medical outreach efforts in the City of Ithaca. This funding is being made available to REACH as part of the Foundation’s effort to support emergency initiatives aimed at meeting the needs of vulnerable individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. REACH is a 501c3 nonprofit licensed Article 32 outpatient treatment provider serving individuals who are vulnerable and often face stigma. Since starting the medical outreach program in Spring 2020, REACH has helped dozens of people receive needed supplies and access healthcare services.

Grant funds will be used to fund a full-time community health worker and nurse, expanding REACH’s existing outreach team. The team will serve locations including the homeless encampment, homeless shelter, and other areas where individuals are experiencing housing instability and inadequate access to healthcare services.  The outreach team will be equipped with basic medical supplies and a mobile tablet to connect individuals to providers at REACH via telemedicine.

The Park Foundation funds will complement an existing grant awarded to REACH by the Ithaca Urban Renewal Agency (IURA), which has funded a part-time mobile outreach team to provide COVID-19 testing within the City of Ithaca to the unstably housed and individuals unable to access the County testing site. In Tompkins County, REACH is leading the community as the only organization providing medical outreach to individuals who are experiencing housing instability.

REACH is deeply grateful and honored to receive this funding from the Park Foundation to expand its medical outreach program to better support the needs of the community.
